Garnet
As the birthstone for January, Garnet stands for constancy, true friendship and fidelity.
The name Garnet comes from the Latin "granatus" meaning "seedlike." Ancients believed it to have curative powers and ground it into powder for poultices. In early Biblical writings, it was called Carbuncle. It occurs in every color except blue, including a jade-like green, or Grossularite Garnet.
